core

In early 2017, we did a teaching series on the core values of FBN. What do we really believe? What shapes and forms this church and all that we do? From where do we get our direction, and what is our mission? We spent 6 weeks unpacking the values listed below. The Word

-The Word is what we take our lead from here at FBN. It reveals God to us, and tells us everything we need to know in response to that. It is a gift we should cherish, study, and pour our lives into, and it must be obeyed. (Psalm 119:1-16)

The Gospel

-The Gospel is the Good News about Jesus that sets what Jesus offers apart from everything else out there. It is not religious, it is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe. The truth of the Gospel (that God came and died for us) doesn't just change our eternal destinations, it should influence every aspect of our lives.

(1 Corinthians 15:1-11, Romans 1:16)

The King

- Jesus is King. He is the King of Kings, the supreme ruler of all creation. All authority belongs to Him. He is the head of His church, so he is the head of FBN, as well as the supreme authority of all who claim His Name. His Kingship, His Lordship knows no bounds. Him being King needs to change the way we work, raise our kids, fill out our schedules, spend our money, commit our time and more. There is nothing beyond His authority.

(Ephesians 1:15-23, John 18,19, Colossians 1:15-23)

The Attitude

- Everything that God calls us to will require selflessness. This selflessness and humility was modeled for us by Jesus. The currency of God's Kingdom, how we invite Him to work in our lives, is humility. When we as a church and individuals humble ourselves before the Lord, He will lift us up.

(Philippians 2:1-11, James 4:6-10)

The Mission

-The church's mission is clear: We are to take the Good News of Jesus and share it with the entire world. This is God's plan A for sauce the world. There is no plan B. Every follower of Christ must take up this call as the central aim of their life.

(Matthew 28:19-20, John 4:34-37, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

The Body

-The church of Jesus was designed to operate as a community of many diverse parts, but all united under its head --- Jesus--- and its mission ---making Jesus famous. We all have a part to play, and God created us all with a need for the church.

(1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Hebrews 10:19-25)
